Meep aka Kophie

Project Title: Unnamed.

Location:

130 Manchester Street

Description:

From the streets of the Parisian Student Uprising in 1968 to more recent Climate Change protests, posters and placards have long formed an important visual component of public social discourses. Ōtautahi artist, designer and social entrepreneur Meep a.k.a. Kophie draws on the lineage of fly-posting to raise awareness of important issues with her poster-based installation on Manchester Street. Acknowledging the massive and dangerous impact of sea-level change on the Pacific, Meep’s work combines striking graphic imagery with data to make a clear call for action, confronting our inaction. Utilising one of Phantom Billstickers’ circular bollards, the artist aims to awake the public audience by altering the expectation of a familiar urban surface - no longer the domain of concert posters, the viewer now is asked to think of a real and imminent danger.

This project is made possible with the support of Phantom Billstickers.
