The Little Street Art Festival is a brand new event in Ōtautahi’s urban art calendar – and we are proud to be bringing something a ‘little’ different!
We love the diversity of urban art – from massive blockbuster murals to the variety of sizes and materials of what has been termed ‘post-graffiti’ street art – from miniature sculptures, stencils and urban paintings, to craftivism, guerilla gardening, light-based works and participatory projects.
This spectrum of art in the streets forms the basis for the Little Street Art Festival – a celebration of smaller acts of creativity that seek to embed art all around us – creating playful, inventive, and meaningful encounters throughout the city that encourage play, exploration, and reflection!
In doing so, we want the Little Street Art Festival to expand the ways we think about art in the streets and provides a unique platform for urban creatives to explore the way their work can utilise our surrounding landscape.
After a lot of planning, we are excited to bring the Little Street Art Festival to life for the first time in 2023! We have gathered nine Ōtautahi urban artists to produce works across the central city (and more artists who will contribute to our wider programme of activations!) – from tiny paintings filling cracks and painted blooms emerging from planter beds to reflective ruminations on Ōtautahi’s past and portraits that will capture your attention in unexpected places… Find out more about each project on our artist pages!
The Little Street Art Festival is only on for a ‘little’ while – 24 November to 4 December 2023 – so make sure you keep track of our various activations, projects and events here and on our social media channels!
A number of our artist’s projects encourage interaction and we have a line up of programming to check out – guided tours, an artist talk, workshops and activations, so join us and get amongst the Little Street Art Festival!
